They're shredding rare books 😱😱😱

There's a lot of shitty things happening in the world right now, Reader, from devastating fires to unjust wars to selfish politicians to wild weather and on and on and on.

And while I'd rather deep dive into folklore topics, I learned something disturbing yesterday that I wanted to amplify here.

There are a gazillion social/environmental problems with AI and a few lifesaving benefits, but the latest news about them hurts my book-loving heart!

Shredding them.

They're already guilty of stealing authors' work online to train their LLMs, but now they're also hoarding old and rare books, ripping them apart to scan the pages, and pulping them after, all to train their LLMs on material free from AI contamination, ironically.

So, if you've ever felt guilty for owning too many books, stop right now and don't you dare give those books away! You might just be helping to preserve culture for future generations.

I'll be completely honest, I use AI for my day job. It's almost impossible to be a digital marketer these days without it. But I will never use LLMs to write my stories.

A) I don't need it, my well of creativity has never run dry.

B) While I'm inspired by many sources, my concept for my short stories is completely original - AI could never create it for me.

C) I believe in Humanity-First Creativity. I refuse to outsource my creativity to a machine or an algorithm. I refuse to let my creativity feed the insatiable consumption monsters that these billionaires are creating.
