Was it a banshee, a fox, or a bird?

Reader, have you ever stopped in your tracks to listen to a bird call?

Maybe it sounded beautiful, or maybe it was a surprising sound, like a baby's cry or like the sound of laser beams.

The bird world is full of fascinating sounds, some of which may have influenced folklore, from screeches like a banshee to imitations of other creatures.

Sean Ronanye is an Irish ornithologist on a mission to record all the native birds in Ireland, and he only has 3 more to go!

Sean was the guest on The Blindboy Podcast this week, and the audio clips and soundscapes he shared are wild.

Even if you’ve never thought twice about birds, this poscast episode will surprise you.

These three clips he shared stuck in my mind after listening to the episode, not once, but twice!

  1. The pretentious sighing deer
  2. The screaming seals
  3. The Jay that barks like a dog (this one blew me away!)

I also enjoyed Blindboy’s take on Selkie myths because as brutal and vulgar as his theory sounds, it’s probably closest to the truth. (Listen to it here.)

*Note: this podcast contains swearing and some content you may not want your kids to hear, so headphones are recommended it young ones are present.

If you do listen to the episode, tell me what your favourite clip was!

Reader, are you a fan of podcasts? Do you have a fave podcast or a top 3 list you're willing to share with me? I'm always looking to expand my playlist.

Oh, and Reader, I have a new Indie author giveaway to share with you this month! It's called the Spectacular Giveaway for Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Other Speculative Fiction. My story, In the Company of Elves, is part of the promo, as well as some interesting short stories, novellas, and full-length books by other Indie authors. If you enjoy stories like mine where fantasy meets the real world, I highly recommend the novel "Fae Away" by Rose Garcia. I read it last year and was hooked from start to finish. Until next week,
